Hmm…welcome. You’ve found your way to tapman.net and as this page seems to get a bunch of traffic I’ve decided to put some real content here. I am Micah Tapman and this is my personal website, generally intended to let me keep in touch with family and friends by posting information about my life. I also use the site to try to contribute back to the web community by posting informative (hopefully) articles on topics with which I’m familiar.

I was born in Washington DC and I currently live in Silver Spring, Maryland, just north of DC, with my girlfriend Jen and our two dogs Alex (chow) and Keaton (super mutt orphan dog from the DC shelter). I’m one of three partners in a small consulting company, Quest Consultants LLC, specializing in identity management, collaboration, and security architecture work. What’s that mean? Basically, we do work with companies to help them sort out things like e-mail, directory services (e.g. Active Directory, LDAP, etc.), instant messaging, document sharing/co-editing, and of course securing all that stuff. My personal strengths lie at the junction of business and technology, designing technology strategies to meet business requirements. I have degrees in computer networking (Strayer University) and an MBA (The George Washington University) and I served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1996-2000.

As for other activities, I’m an avid online gamer (Warcraft), traveller, Ultimate (Frisbee) player, movie fan, reader (generally sci-fi or non-fiction business stuff), an amateur photographer, and based on this website a part time writer ;-).

The site is hosted using a Wordpress instance, which is something I started working with in October 2007, and being somewhat addicted to web technology I enjoy playing around with the software’s capabilities so let me know if anything is screwed up!
